Description

Our Highland Home explores Queen Victoria's and her husband Prince Albert's love affair with Scotland. Their early journeys to Scotland, including visits to Dalkeith Palace, Taymouth Castle and Perth are discussed, as well as their stays at Balmoral, to which they formed a deep attachment. The author illuminates the private side of the royal couple's existence away from their public life in London. Our Highland Home: Victoria and Albert in Scotland includes images from the collections of the National Galleries of Scotland, the Royal Collection Trust, and many public and private collections throughout the United Kingdom.

This book is lavishly illustrated and printed on high quality paper. But I wish I had noted that it is only 56 pages long. In fact it's a "coffee table" book and I was quite disappointed, I must admit. It's really a book of very well printed Victorian paintings, and the text which accompanies the illustrations is sparse, to say the least. Put it this way- the front and back covers are made of thick cardboard. The combined thickness of the covers is greater than the thickness of the pages in between!. It's really just the kind of book you'd idly flick through, in a dentist's waiting room.
