Description

Aspiring television writer Evan Walker has been in love with his best friend since high school, but Kyle doesn’t do boyfriends. Never has. Never will. Evan knows it’s a bad idea to give in to desire when he wants more than a friend with benefits. He has a new dream job. Now all he needs is the dream partner. Kyle Bennett is a mystery novelist with a severe case of writer’s block. He needs a change. He has three days on their cross-country train trip home for the holidays to figure out how to tell Evan he’s staying there for good. He also has to write the overdue pages for his editor. Only, he’s a little too distracted by the close quarters in their sleeper compartment—and Evan’s ass—to get much done. The sparks that fly between them are hotter than ever. Good thing they have a real-life mystery to focus on: why people all around them, including Evan’s new boss, want to get their hands on a journal that once belonged to Kyle’s grandfather. When a blizzard traps them in the mountains, Kyle and Evan steam up the train’s windows and must finally face their true desires. This book contains explicit sexual content and graphic language.

Great story. Perfect blend of romance, a little mystery, and hotness. Kyle's grandfather's journal entries were bittersweet and poignant. His personal history unfolded as Kyle and Evan's story progressed, which added depth overall and was an integral part of the main plot. I looked forward to these journal entries. This story was sultry, well written, and interesting. The humor and chemistry between Kyle and Evan will pull you in. There was some vacillation and insecurity between the MCs, mainly caused by the realigning of perceptions that they'd had of each other over their 10 yr ongoing relationship. I think it might have bordered on annoying had their relationship not been an ongoing one. It's much more difficult to think of the same old someone in a new way, especially if that person ends up being the one you want most in the world, so the insecurities seemed believable to me. Mainly, Kyle's realization that he 'can do this'-- a meaningful, real relationship-- after a lifetime of shall we say 'sluttery' took getting used to for both himself and Evan. All of the characters were multi-dimensional, the MCs both like-able. I don't want to get into the meat of the plot but I really enjoyed this book as I have all of Sloan Parker's books that I've read, which to date, is pretty much her booklist. I started with How to Save a Life and haven't looked back-- well, that's not exactly true because her books are great re-reads.Highly recommend.
