Description

Dogs left home alone can wreak havoc on homes and gardens. Many dogs will go into a frenzy of barking, whining, howling, scratching, chewing, and all manner of noisy, destructive and potentially dangerous behaviors. Dogs exhibiting this behavior may be suffering from separation anxiety. "Separation Anxiety: Leaving Dogs Home Alone" is a valuable resource for anyone with a dog that may be suffering from separation anxiety, as well as dog trainers looking for new solutions to this common problem. Many of the strategies suggested in this book are holistic in nature, thereby having a ripple effect which reach beyond the topic of separation anxiety. This makes it a great read for any dog-lover looking to improve the relationship with their dog, as well as anyone planning to adopt a new puppy or rescue dog.

A lot of what's in here is basic, not all, but a lot. The GREAT news is that it's all actionable and that's pretty much all we need as pup-parents - WE need to be held accountable and be consistent -I've got a pound puppy who was on the street for 1.5 years and once he decided to stay with me, won't let me out of his sight. I've had to go back to the ABCs of Anxiety Training with him and this book was a quick read with "oh, yeah, I could do better at that" reminders.Once I started actually following what I knew to be correct, and learning a few SERIOUSLY impressive little tricks from this book, my dog never went back to eating metal security gates or wooden door frames when away from me.Reminder, you are working on the dog's timeline and not what you think should be a satisfactory time for improvement. Patience and CONSISTENCY in practice AND following the TECHNIQUES from Chad Culp are EXACTLY what you need if dealing with an anxious dog. Cheap compared to a home visit by a pro-trainer (and probably the same info, just delivered in a different way).Recommend reading and holding yourself accountable to what this book has to say for a good month before giving up. If you just can't trust yourself, go ahead and spend the money to have a trainer out to your home.
