Description

Going Home set a high bar for what life could look like after an EMP. But Morgan’s journey and even his home focuses on more rural areas. The small towns of Florida are nothing compared to the chaos the tourist corridor would be like. Could you imagine being at Disney or Universal Studios when such an even occurred? What would those tens of thousands of people do? Where would they go? If you’ve been following the series, you know the DHS isn’t exactly concerned with the well being of the people of this country. But what are they really working towards? Who are they looking out for? Morgan is doing his best to keep his small community safe, now let’s take a look at Orlando and how Charlie deals with the crisis. It’s a whole different situation surrounded by millions of residents and visitors all trying to survive. I want to thank my good friend Walt Browning, who did a lot of the heavy lifting on this novella. Our teamwork has produced some fine work here. We hope you enjoy this and if you want more we will be happy to continue.

Edit: Added a longer more detailed review 3/26/2015OK full disclosure: I have been a big fan of A. Americans since before he published the first book Going Home. I did not know him before that other than being on the same forum together where he started posting Going Home a chapter at a time.I offered him some technical advice on Amateur Radio(Ham Radio) for the first book and the rest is history. In fact we are actually close friends now. He knows full well that if I did not like something he produced, I would most assuredly “call his baby ugly” without hesitation. When he suggest that I take a look at his new venture with Walt Browning and their “Novella” I jumped at the chance. Being as cheap as he is, I actually had to pay the $2.99 Amazon fee to read it. I can honestly say that it was probably the best $2.99 I have ever spent.Charlie’s Requiem is a book that takes place in the parallel universe of Going Home. Parallel in the fact that it takes place in Orlando Florida due to the same events that started Morgan on his journey in Going Home.A CME(Coronal Mass Ejection) mixed with a EMP(Electric Magnetic Pulse) knocks the US back to the stone age. Nothing relying on electricity works: No electric power, no phones land lines or cells, no computers, no internet, no food deliveries to any grocery stores. Very few cars work due to modern electronics being fried by the events.Bad enough if you are in a rural area, but in the middle of the Mouse House in Orlando, it does not take long for the, as they say SH-T to Hit the Fan.The Rule of Law breaks down pretty quick. No food or water or even law enforcement presence after a few days. Hundreds of thousands of tourists with nothing to survive with but their flip-flops and Mouse ears. Toss in being thousands of miles from home and you have the worst nightmare a family can imagine. For most the only hope is if the government comes to help. For others with the grit and determination to survive, they might stand a fighting chance. Can they do it alone or do they need to band together to try to get out of the festering hell hole that Orlando is becoming? The only problem I had with Charlies Requiem is it was way too short. I had the sense of dread reading on the Kindle app on my iPad watching the % read climbing higher as the story evolved ever deeper.Like being able to see the future, I knew what was coming……. I would get to a point in this book where I could not wait to turn the page and see what happens, knowing full well these cruel writers would pull the rug out from under me and end the novella. Sure enough that’s exactly what happened.I did not know Walt Browning but went to his FaceBook page and pitched a fit. I NEEDED the rest of the book NOW! I begged him and AA to get writing and complete the first book so I could get my fix.If you enjoy Post-Apocalyptic Fiction like the Going Home Series, Lights Out, Loyal Nine or One Second After you will love Charlies Requiem.Do yourself a favor and get it now because you won’t have to wait the 5 months I did until Charlies Requiem: Democide comes out in May of 2016.Great novella. One BIG problem with it.....ITS TOO SHORT!!!!!I know A. American as a friend and have been following his work since he started writing. His work with Walt on this is fantastic. Great storyline, very plausible story line development for some one caught in a tourist town when the SHTF.Now they just need to get writting and get the next full book version finished. I hear from talking to both AA and Walt that we should see the next installment by this Spring. Hurry up guys, I am all out of reading material.
