Description

The Roman Empire had everything, but it also took everything, especially from followers of Yeshua who didn't know the cost of participation. Caleb and Eliza return from Rome with a letter from the emperor and a new sister. Despite having exactly what they need, their hearts are riddled with emotional baggage that comes from attempting to be a Roman at a time of great social sin. With Caleb's parents dead and Eliza's parents enslaved, they must push forward with a plan to find them. In the middle of their search, they find their life's identity as they twist through the healing process that leads them to unexpected sacrifice.

The Holy Land in the time of Ancient Rome is a captivating and ambitious setting for this third installment of Jeff Gaura’s Seeker Trilogy. The world is big and brutish: big armies, unforgiving governments and big trouble for those who don’t subscribe to the Empire’s polytheistic doctrine.Although it works as a standalone, the story picks up from where Book 2 ends, with Eliza and Caleb returning to their small Hebrew village after a sidewinding Roman adventure. The interlude turns out to be short-lived, as a quest to find Eliza’s enslaved parents becomes all-consuming. Vivid depictions of a bygone era serve the story’s historical interest but the themes explored by the author have never been more relevant. The “Christian fiction” label shouldn’t scare away secular readers. While Caleb and Eliza encounter unfamiliar cultures, lessons of tolerance and understanding are centerstage. Under duress the characters learn how far one must go to sacrifice for loved ones. The stakes may not always be so high, but the lessons are universal.
