This book is an actual list of instructions written by a gentleman (a man with a house and servants) to his wife, in case he is away or dies. These instructions are written with warmth and tenderness and cover Behavior in Public, House Keeping, Varmint Control and more. Since I am a believer in Christ, the behavior sections were not surprising to me except that they are so specific, like “keep your eyes focused on the ground six feet ahead of you” while walking in town. Maybe you are like me in that you occasionally think what it would be like if our society had to do without electricity, running water and grocery stores. Well this is a real world description. I found it eye opening and it made me smile.
