I could relate to this book because I lost my Dad. I was so lost afterward. Grace Palmer writes this story just like the way I felt almost 30 years ago.My favorite part of the book was when Brent said, the funny thing about people like Henry-people of strong and unique character- is that, even when they're not around, the people who know and love them know they'd say and do if they happen to be in the neighborhood. Brent could hear his Dad's voice in his ear, as clear as if the man himself were standing just behind him out of sight. I can so relate to that. Still today I sometimes feel that way.I think so many people have had things happen that they too had to pick up the pieces of their lives and this book was just like that. Struggling with rebuilding or putting the pieces back together. Doubts, questions, taking the first step to move forward. That is what Mae, Henry's wife said, we are a forward-moving family and we have to start looking forward. That is what my mother said. The book does leave us with so many unanswered questions but book 2 will be releasing in June. I think the way the author left the book is perfect for the what the book is about. There was this gap that was between being so lost and starting to pick up the pieces for me.I was surprised to learn she was a new author and I am glad she wrote this story. I keep thinking this was a story she just had to write. Even though I lost my Dad almost 30 years ago this book reminds me so much of what I went through. At the time I wondered if I would make it through but it is the little things, like Brent feeling his Dad was standing behind him whispering in his ear, or the memories and feeling like even though Dad isn't here physically, he is still with us and guiding us.Everyone is going to lose someone so special to them and I think they will find comfort in reading this book. It also gives you an understanding of what someone is going through when they lose someone special.
