Description

I am an alto singer and pianist. I interpret songs of the 1920's-1940's with emotion and sensitivity. The music I loved in my youth is popular again: George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, Richard Rodgers and Larry Hart, Gus Kahn, etc. Medleys made popular by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers as well as classic Broadway show tunes are part of my large repertoire. I pride myself on a constantly expanding musical selection and am able to learn songs by ear. Older audiences are delighted when I am able to satisfy their request for rarely performed hits from the past. I have been researching these songs and their composers and am able to share anecdotal histories. Younger listeners in their 20's, 30's and 40's particularly like my medleys of the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor, Patsy Cline and 1950's hits. Everyone taps their toes to ragtime and the bossa nova. For the really young at heart, I play Sesame Street tunes including "Rubber Duckie" and "Sing". I enjoy losing myself in the beauty of a ballad or torch song and can take control of a room with my dynamic voice. My classical training gives me a vehicle to deliver the full impact of these tunes. Comedy numbers include tunes by Tom Lehrer, Martin Mull, Dave Frishberg, Blossom Dearie and even a Marlene Dietrich medley, ending with Mel Brooks' tribute to Dietrich from his film Blazing Saddles, "I'm Tired". Some entertainers move from location to location, changing audiences rather than their performance package. With my incredibly vast and diverse repertoire, I am able to please customers again and again with musical variety and sophistication.
