The book, "Teaching Children Self-Discipline, at Home and at School," is EXCELLENT! On a scale of one to five, I would give it twelve stars. The book is thorough, comprehensive, well organized, clear, and convincing in explaining child-rearing methods, both traditional and modern, and in describing the problematic results that flow from each method. The author offers an alternative method that makes eminent sense—that is so reasonable, plausible, and feasible—it is a godsend for parents, teachers, and anyone with a stake in raising children. The book is also very valuable reading for anyone who has struggled to understand his (or her) own character development and sometimes strained relationship with his (or her) own parents. In books, newspaper columns, on the radio and in other media, advice for child-rearing abounds. Most of it is ill-conceived and actually harmful. After reading this book, you will be able to recognize false guidance. You will be able to foresee the harmful consequences that would flow from the flawed “guidance” that so often passes as expert advice. Most importantly, you will have a road-map for a better method to guide children and youth in their emotional and spiritual growth. This is a book worth its weight in gold. The only think I can suggest for its improvement would be a work-book with exercises to help the reader learn how to implement and practice the author’s suggested method. The nearest thing to this may be found in the author’s books, "Parent Effectiveness Training" and "Teacher Effectiveness Training."
