This is probably one of the very few factual narratives and solid historical lines of proof of life in Southern Germany under Hitler. As one of the remaining "Zeitzeugen"---an eye witness then living in the region described by Jill Stephenson--- I am simply amazed at the accuracy and clarity of her research. If you want to know just how millions were affected by both lunacy and decency, and wish to hear the unvarnished truth about victor and vanquished, read this book. To see the names, understand the actions (or inactions), the sometimes flawed and often high-minded sentiments and leanings of those involved, read the book. Understand why there were the good, the bad, the detached, the indifferent and the fanatical. Whatever your reasons for the search, I strongly recommend this book.Mark Robertson is not a German historian. He is a Scottish nationalist who objects to the author's defence of the Union. He has no expertise in this field.
