This particular album, I first listened to back in the 1970's when I was just a youngster (I was born actually in 1970 so I was three when this was made originally). I first the heard the collection on 8-Track which is virtually impossible nowadays so I bought the LP at 42 yeears of age and am having fun with it. My Mother has always been a very great fan of Johnny Mathis and I adopted her likings as a child. Even back then, I understood the longings that love can leave and did not look forward to the emptiness it can hold. Over the years I continued listening to Johnny and even practicing my hand at singing (by hearing only) and have developed a very appreciable ability to articulate a song. I owe much of this due to heart-felt and long standing respect for Johnny Mathis and an appreciation that men of great emotional content often are the ones most vulnerable to life's woes, and torments. It takes me back to those days when I could not really sing but could sit there and imagine "how does he do that?"...Now, I can sing, with great vibrato and much of the skill of Johnny Mathis. I do not owe this to imitating or jealousy, but rather a sense of admiration and comraderie. Through Johnny Mathis' singing and seelctions, I regard him as like a deep and personal friend. The last time he appeared in Cleveland, in 2011, I went to see him for the first time Live and was very impressed. I remember whenI got into the Theater, one of the Attendants asked me if I wanted to go back stage (apparently there were some left over passes, or perhaps I had been mistaken for some other Ticket Holder.) I declined, and said "No". It would not be honest. Most of all, I think that Johnny has an honest voice, and if I were to ever meet him, I would prefer that it would be "Naturally", another great hit of his!!!
