This series of videos is good for die hard sports fans but athletes will also find it motivational. It doesn't get into what it takes to become good at sports though.My favorite video out of the series is the one called "Primitive Instincts" which focuses on the combative sports such as boxing, sumo, karate, fencing, judo and even bull fighting. It talks of the origins of the martial arts and boxing but places a heavier emphasis on boxing. The history of boxing, the champions of the past and the best fights are discussed. Old film footage of fighters such as Joe Lewis, Jack Demsey, etc. is shown.The videos don't get into the psychology of why people enjoy combative sports so much, but it does say that man's desire to overcome other men and animals for food, shelter and mates is an ingrained primordial quality. Once man no longer needed to kill animals and fight off other men by maiming or killing them, he found surrogate activities, hence modern combative sports were developed.The one thing that I got out of the videos (particularly "Primative Instincts") is that there are hardly any differences between the way man is now and the way man used to be long ago. The shear brutality of things such as bull fights, football and boxing are what draws crowds of people. Many enjoy seeing others being knocked flat on their backs and blood spurting from a dying bull. This is what draws crowds.I could take this idea a step further and talk of how men are fascinated by war and sophisticated weaponry designed to kill. Man has always been savage and always will be.
