The black leather is true black and glossy. It is well padded but on the firm side. The seat is a bit higher than I expected, at 5’9” my foot doesn’t sit flat on the floor unless I’m slouching a bit. The chair was super easy to assemble; only needed to screw on the legs. Other reviewers said they wished the front and back legs were identified in the instructions. This wasn’t an issue for me, I looked at the pictures of the assembled chair on Amazon and could see the curved legs went in the back and the straight legs were in the front. I had this unpacked and assembled in under 5 minutes.
