I purchased the large home for my hedgehog. While I would have preferred to purchase the extra large home for him, I simply do not have the room at this moment and this cage still met the minimum size requirements. I do however plan on up grading him in the future when possible. For my use, I feel like this was a good purchase. The Amazon price was perfect. Overall, the cage has been easy to clean and although I haven't used it too long, I feel durability wise, it will hold up just fine. However, the clips on each side which are suppose to hold the wire top to the plastic base are way too short. They don't even come close to clipping under the little piece they are suppose to. And yes, I did move them down a rung and then they are too long. This is a little frustrating and requires me to use bungee cords in order to safely secure the cage. I do plan on contacting the company to see what they can do for me.On another note, please think twice about purchasing this item for a "larger" small pet such as a guinea pig, rabbit, chinchilla, or ferret. The large size cage is much too small for any of these critters. Even the extra large cage would be pushing it, unless they got a few hours of playtime outside of the cage each day. My little hedgehog gets at least an hour or two of supervised play in a very large playpen every day. I find it very unfortunate that this company would even suggest that the large home would be an acceptable size for one of these pets (which was extremely obvious they did judging by the box it arrived in). I'm not one of those crazy animal activists, but I would feel it's boarder line animal cruelty to keep such a large animal in such a small cage. Please do your research on an appropriate size cage before you bring your new friend home. This cage is amazing. It's so big and for a great price. I purchased this for my two male rats and they love it! I was a little worried about the 1 inch bar spacing but it's perfect. This is a great size for my two ratties. I wouldn't recommend if you have more than two rats. It shipped so fast and came before the expected delivery time too. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. Some reviews say that the door opens to easily but I think that was an old model because the door is not easy to open ( for the rats obviously, I can open it just fine lol). Another review also said that the top is too easily removed from the bottom but once again I think that was an older model because I received two clips to keep the cage attached to the bottom pan.I really like how high the bottom pan is so my rats can't push the bedding out (even though they try lol). So far I haven't had any problems with them chewing the plastic bottom, the only thing the chew on are the bars and they won't be able to get through those.I also like that in the future when i'm ready to expand their cage I can easily purchase a second one of these and stack them or set them side by side. Instead of buying a really expensive large cage and throwing this one out it will save me money and be completely customizable. The only problem I had was that there were no platforms, and rats love to climb. But that a really easy fix that only cost me three dollars. I went the dollar store and picked up some cooling racks and zip ties and made platforms myself very cheaply and they turned out great. ( I'll post photos)I would definitely recommend this cage, I have no regrets and am very happy with my purchase. We bought this cage to use for pet rats. Its not really a good cage for rats though. We've had success keeping rats in it but we had one rat that figured out how to wiggle through the bars and would run around the house in the middle of the night. We would spend an hour or more to capture her and she'd be back running around the house 10 minutes later. The bars are not ideal for keeping rats inside unless you have some big fat rats. Smaller rats will be able to slip right out if they feel like it. The cage itself is great. It's design is simple and easy to put together. It folds down for easy storage. Its sturdy and easy to clean. The metal wires clip into the bottom tray so they dont come apart. Its a really nice size too. The wires have a white coating on them and some animals will chew the bars and the white coating comes off. I am not sure if that is harmful or not. Overall I do like the cage and would recommend it to others. Just beware small rats do not work well for this particular product.I try to make my reviews engaging and useful. Please click the helpful button if you thought this review was of some help. Thanks!May 2011: i bought this cage for 2 guinea pigs and it is working out well for them size wise. it is light weight and easy to clean! overall i am happy and would buy this item again but it is not perfectly made...one of the wire bars was broken when i got the cage and i broke one of the wires snaping the side clips on but they cant get out so its fine still. it was a much better price on amazon than the pet storeNov 2011 update: my piggies have grown a little and they are somewhat out growing this cage. they are females so they are much smaller than males....i dont think 2 males would fit, but my girls are doing fine. However, I am asking for the Midwest Interactive Guinea Habitat Plus for Christmas. It is a larger cage for them and i think they will be happier and able to exercise more. I would check that cage out when you are looking at buying a guinea pig cage. Unless you are going to spend tons and tons of time with your piggy they get pretty depressed when alone.... the Midwest cage is larger than this one but currently both are the same price. (also if you get the regular Midwest guinea habitat without the plus it would actually be less expensive and more spacious for your pig.)My superpet XL cage has worked out well though, i am completely happy with it as a product I just want to give my pigs more space.
