My son and I watched this from thanksgiving through Christmas! We laugh so hard at many parts. Love Will Ferrell, Zoey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen and Hames Caan, may he Rest In Peace. A timeless classic!Jon Favreau and Will Farrell bring the magic of Christmas with them on this hilarious holiday adventure!I will be the first to say I am not a big Will Farrel fan. But this is probably his best role. It is an absolute must for our Christmas movie lineup each year. It is family-friendly, funny, and wholesome. It's taken me a long time to review it, but if you've never seen this movie you owe it to yourself to give it a try. It's an older movie, so doesn't have any of the "woke" nonsense found in more recent movies; it's great for the whole family!Buddy + Jovi + favreau + Dinklage + caan + Lou grant + Newhart + Faizon + steenburgen with richter, sedaris and Leon redbone to boot - perfectly cast and perfectly doneThere is something brilliant about seeing a giant man in a bright green elf costume, acting like an absolute child, in the middle of the hard streets of NYC.This movie has a lot of love crafted into it. You can tell just from the beginning, with the stop-motion animations a clear call-back to the classic Christmas animations of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, etc.. The dedication to using old-school forced perspective to make the elves smaller than the humans, rather than resorting to CGI that would look dated in 5 years. The use of a dull background and bright costumes made the Workshop pop and have surreal story-book feeling to it, very clever.You can feel the heart and effort those who made the movie put into this, so much so that even at the climax with the usual cheesy power of Christmas, that instead of rolling the eyes, you get kind of swept up in it, and bam, you're a child again that still believes in Santa and magic and a world of wonder and joy.There are a lot of Christmas movies out there, but this one is unique in being light but also heavy. It has some heavy meaty stuff that hooks you in, but it is light enough that you are not intimidated to dip your toes into the movie for a re-watch every Christmas.The only case I wouldn't recommend this is if you really, really dislike the star of the movie. Cause he is front and center and carries it. He went ham on channeling his inner child and sells it. Man is brave, especially when the film crew let him loose in NYC interacting with normal non-actors. Man coulda gotten punched in the face, just sayin. But some people just don't like certain actors, which I can respect, so if Will isn't your cup of tea, don't feel obligated to watch.Jeff Bezos...I rent this thing every year, so just deposit it in my account already.A silly but cute Christmas storyI rent this movie every year to show to my students, however I finally decided to purchase and I am so happy I did!!A lot of "Christmas movies" are over sentimental and childish (as you might expect). Elf is refreshing in that it has appeal for children but also has an adult tale to tell. If you don't like Elf, you are on the naughty list!Elf has become the number 1 Christmas movie in my household! There is nothing else that will fill you with Christmas spirit than Elf! (ok there are a lot of good Xmas films, but this is a corker) Will Ferrell is excellent, the story is great and I even shed a slight tear at the end when the sleigh took off SPOILER ALERT (too late). My family love this film and we must watch it 3-4 times over the Christmas period, so do yourself and your family a favour and buy this today!Where has Elf been all my life?! I hadn't watched this until Christmas 2016 and oh my god, the whole family loves this and has watched it 3 or 4 times since. Will Ferrell is hilarious and there really is nothing not to love about this film. Highly recommend.This is a annual must watch each year.One of the best films to get you into the Christmas spirit.
