Our dog got fleas in spite of monthly fleas prevention treatment. I wasn’t precise about the monthly prevention though like I should have been. I figured I could give it to her every 4-6 weeks and she’d be ok. Now I realize I needed to be as diligent with that as I am with the birth control pill. Luckily I came across the Vets Best product once my dog got fleas. It works great but you still need to be anal about how you use it. We eradicated our dog and ourselves of fleas after two weeks using the following method. I discovered our dog had fleas on a Tuesday evening, Day 0. I had been itching like crazy though a week or two prior to this but didn’t connect the dots it was due to fleas until I saw the fleas flying off my dog. It's important to continue to treat your house and dogs for fleas for the two full weeks as there are four stages of fleas: egg, larvae, pupae, and adult. Capstar pills are only effective against adult fleas, while Vets best is effective against all stages except the pupae stage, so you need to be diligent in order to kill the pupae before they turn into adults. I still saw stuff come off my dog on my flea comb through day 10 or so.Day 0*Researched how to get rid of fleas and I ordered two bottles of Vets Best, 1 flea comb, and Capstar pills.Day 1*Called vet. She didn't really help*Sprayed my dog with vets best, let it dry, then shampooed it out. I repeated this again eight hours later.*Gave my dog 1 Capstar pill that day.*Stripped my bed (normally she sleeps with me), my clothes, and her dog bed and washed these (took 4 large loads) in sanitary setting in my washer and steam extra hot dried them.*Any other linens laying around I double bagged for two weeks.*Vacuumed the floors 5 times. Like literally every time my dog switched positions I vacuumed.*Each time the floor was vacuumed I dumped the contents in the outside trash can.*Closed off all rooms in the house and only allowed my dog in the family room and master bedroom in order to contain the fleas. (Days 1-15)*That night my daughter combed through my dogs hair outside and found hundreds of eggs/larvae, which she removed and drowned in water, then tossed out.*Sprayed the entire house with vets best, including the sofa, chairs, baseboards.*Sprayed entire interior of the car with Vet's best*Called professional exterminators but they weren’t able to come until day two.Day 2, 4, 6, 8*Sprayed dog again with Vet's best, let it dry, then shampooed it out*Vacuumed the floors 2-3 times throughout the day. Dumped out the contents immediately after each time.*Professional exterminators sprayed the entire floor of our house and outside. We had to leave the house for 3 hours until it dried. (Day 2 only)*Washed dogs bed, towels, and sheet she layed on, on high sanitary heat setting and steam dry extra hot dryer.(Days 2, 4 only)*Combed through my dogs hair outside and found eggs/larvae, which were removed and drowned in water, then tossed out.*Day 8 only: Sprayed entire interior of the car with Vet's BestDay 3, 5, 7*Vacuumed the floors 2-3 times throughout the day. Dumped out the contents immediately after each time.*Gave dog 1 Capstar*Washed dogs bed, towels, and sheet she layed on, on high sanitary heat setting and steam dry extra hot dryer. (Day 7 only)*Combed through my dogs hair outside and found eggs/larvae, which were removed and drowned in water, then tossed out.Days 9-15*Vacuumed the floors 2-3 times throughout the day. Dumped out the contents immediately after each time.*Combed through my dogs hair outside and found eggs/larvae, which were removed and drowned in water, then tossed out.All the stuff I did may sound excessive, but after reading several reports of people who can't get rid of the fleas for months, I would much rather go this route than deal with fleas for that long. By far the hardest part of the whole thing was not cuddling with my dog for two weeks.I bought this product 3 years ago and only got to use it now. My dog did not have fleas until now. She's had plenty of ticks, but I remove those manually each time. I have 2 dogs now and for the first time in 3 years fleas showed up on them. I took the bottle out of the storage and it worked right away. You can see them crawl up on the fur and die instantly. Same with a bunch of small ticks I saw in their bedding today, sprayed and they died right away. I love the smell personally. It is strong, but smells clean and natural. The dogs can't stand it thought, but second time spraying them now, second day in a row and they seem to be much better about it than the first time. They went nuts trying to get the smell off. I sprayed carpets and the couch they use. I don't give my dogs anything for ticks and fleas because they are small dogs and I generally think those are toxic chemicals that are not needed given that in my area fleas are quite rare and I've gotten used to ticks without an issue removing them manually. We don't go hiking or much in the woods. We do have woods area around our yard and perhaps that's where the fleas came from this time, but for now this is a very reasonable pest population control method, not expensive and really easy to use. And makes the whole room (where my dogs live) smell refreshing and calming for me! If you buy this product just as a refresher of smell in a room where dogs hang out a lot, it will work for that well enough! But definitely kills fleas and ticks immediately on contact. Poor suckers. This stuff is a life saver, the only down side is it Do NOT repel fleas when the dogs go outside they come back with a bunch of fleas , I’ve tried so May and different yard sprays I feel like I’m running out of options. I must say every time they come in with fleas if I spray them with this it kills them, some will jump off the dogs on the floor and I have to keep looking for them and vacuum constantly. This truly been the summer of SAM I’ve had dogs all my life and the fleas been so bad this year due to sever heat waive. But thank you Jesus for this product or my house would be Infested . I wish I didn’t have to let my dogs out they literally go out just to use the bathroom and they get overwhelmed with fleas . When you stray this make sure you cover the whole body and face ears the fleas run to where there is no spray and they usually run to the head nose or when I turn him they run to the stomach area. This tiff kills in contact only is not working for repelant , beggars can’t be choosers I’ll take anything at this point. I never wrote long reviews but this stuff works great I just with that it would repel fleas once the product dries off on the dog that’s it more fleas when they go out. I’ll keep buying it tho at least I know I can get the fleas off them without taking them a bunch of flea baths . Hope this helps .we had a flea infestation at home and we used everything! we had to spray the whole house and all things, remove rugs, bathe the animals with anti flea shampoo and we isolate them for 3 days to take care of the house. The spray kills all eggs and fleas in contact, it helps us after shower my pets, I spray it on them to kill any fleas remaining. The other medicine capstars we used, does not kill the eggs but eliminates the live fleas, together with this spray That kills the eggs, The both together was essential for this to work, because when we released the animals in the house some fleas still jumped on them but they died right away! We continue to apply 1 pill a day (6 days) and the spray to protect them from any leftovers in the house. the market is full of useless products, frontline, flea collar, natural lotion, nothing worked! thank you for putting an efficient medicine on the market, my money will thank youThis came from USA and so was more costly because of the postage. We bought it as we have been looking for a natural way to fight the fleas. The liquid has a strong smell - I noticed the clove smell, but my husband noticed the peppermint smell more - and it has a very soapy feel. The dogs coats frothed up a bit when this was rubbed in, but dried OK without seeming sticky. The dogs didn't mind the spray and seemed to have no adverse reaction to it. Whilst I was spraying the dogs, I did notice one or two fleas and sprayed the fleas directly, which killed them, but I'm not sure if it was the contents of the spray, or if they just drowned. The next day, on combing the dogs, I noticed one or two fleas and they seemed a bit dopey, so I was able to catch them, but the next day the flea situation was as bad as ever. If I had bought a huge bottle and could have sprayed the dogs every day, this might have cured the flea problem, but I didn't, so it didn't. The contents of the liquid are peppermint oil: 0.3%; clove extract:0.7%; sodium lauryl sulphate:2.7%; and 96.3% is water with sodium benzoate added. This is basically soapy water with some preservative and essential oils added as perfume. The dogs smell nice though.I like it but the dog doesn't as he runs when he hears the spray go! So I may give to an animal charity shop.Great productVery happy with purchase , only one comment .i waited such a long time for it to arrive .It works but in larger quantities. Meaning more spray is required to kill fleas efficiently. Most die , some survive. It's the best chemical free and natural alternative available.
