This book has good character development to the point that I feel as though I know each person personally that was presented in the story. The subjects of PTSD and the Holocaust are both very heavy to cover outside of a textbook and the author deserves kudos for her skillful handling of both areas. Fortunately for the reader there are lighter moments provided by the various animals such as the dog with three legs known to some as "tri pod". I much appreciate how this story covers the period after the war with its tremendous challenges for survivors in putting a new life together for themselves. Most Holocaust stories end with the liberation of a particular Camp but this story continues beyond into the lives of the survivors so that we see the difficult road that they had to travel in order to keep living and not to simply give up and die. Overall ,a very well- done piece of writing.
