Easy to assemble and looks great. This hutch is exactly what I was looking to augment my kitchen storage and display needs. Well build, 100% SOLID WOOD design (no engineered products here), well packaged, and easy to assembly with fantastic directions (took 2 hours to put together, but I was being careful not to scratch the surface. Can't praise this buffet/hutch enough. It was expensive, but it would have cost 2x the same to have one built by a local craftsman. If your considering this purchase, you won't be disappointed!Let me tell you something, it comes in 3 heavy boxes. It's got plenty of packing to protect the smaller pieces (had a minor crack in one). the nuts n bolts packages are clearly labeled. And the biggest thing and what makes the cost fair? Actual, proper wood. Not particle board, not plywood, and not the ultra-weak wood that's used in some of the family dollar-type places that sell small furniture. We are talking solid. Even the drawer bottom and the backing pieces are actual wood. What might be the only non-solid wood piece was the countertop part, but this is likely because I opted for the steel top so the bottom portion is not affected. it was still a heavy piece. But with every, self-assembly, you will come across some spots where holes don't exactly line up. It would be due to slight warpage of wood (it's real after all). But those were fairly minor and didn't affect the overall assembly and quality. A big bonus to the parts that would house the drawers were piece installed so no mixing up rails. For my kitchen, it's the right height with my existing countertops. It's not as deep as the counters but still can handle what I plan to put there.I'm impressed - very impressed. I read the other reviews and it looks as though the company has too. For the things the reviews mentioned, they seem to have worked on fixing them. I didn't have the same problems. For the less-than-$200.00 price we spent on it, this piece is pretty amazing. Real wood. Not a single piece of MDF and no veneer, which is truly unheard of in that price range. I have pieces that are much more expensive that cut the corners with materials - they didn't. Even the handles were full/heavy/real metal, not plastic or hollow. Great color - dark cherry - goes beautifully with our table. I was able to put it together by myself, with only some help from my husband to move hold the hutch while I attached it to the base. The directions were ok. I had to really look at the pictures to make sure that I was putting the pieces in correctly. I was VERY impressed with the way it was packed, each piece was meticulously wrapped and labeled. Every small part had an extra and came in a labeled bag. Nothing was missing. There were some small but manageable issues, one of the cams was missing the plastic part in the piece itself that held it into the wood, but I was able to work around it and still attach the pieces securely. There were one or two holes that could have been drilled a little more cleanly and a couple of scratches that are all internal and don't even show. The hutch doesn't rest "exactly" evenly on the base, but is secure and I can fix the slight gap easily. But, seriously, for $200.00, I can overlook and fix those little things myself. You cannot beat the materials. Glad I got it. I was ready for the worst but was pleasantly surprised. Great job Homestyles. As other reviewers mentioned, this piece takes a while to put together, but I found the instructions clear and had no major problems with assembly. Most of the work can be done by one person, two are necessary to put the buffet and hutch together. Piece is sturdy and beautiful, I’m satisfied with my purchase.I'll start by breaking down the 4 star review into parts.Design: 5 stars. We saw nothing that fit what we needed better (cherry, mission, and less that $1000), and the features such as the center wine rack are very nice.Materials: 4 stars. For the price point, the materials were quite good but not great. Everything is real wood, but the windows on the hutch are plastic that can scratch easily. Because the wood isn't actually cherry, but some sort of Thai hardwood, scratches on the wood also show more than they would on real cherry.Craftsmanship: 2 stars. The parts are ill fitting. Many screw holes weren't drilled. I needed a hammer to get some of the cams into their holes. The cam screws didn't always go into their plastic holes cleanly. One of the lower cabinet doors is warped so that it doesn't close flush. The drawers are not quite straight.Assembly: 3 stars. This product needs a fair amount of assembly. Since the hutch and buffet are actually two different pieces with their own assembly instructions, you might get an idea about how much work is involved by comparing this to assembling, say, two dressers you would buy at Target. The only hardware that came assembled were the runners on the buffet drawers. The decision to buy this item comes down to price. You get real wood and a great design, but not so great craftsmanship (average or even below average for cam and cam screw assembly). For a unit that sits in the corner of our dining area, this doesn't show and we have gotten accolades for having the unit. We are happy with our decision.
