This film is an experience not to be missed for those who love the essence of film: moving art. The themes woven in this film and the subtle parallels creep up on you as it progresses, and I found it to be not a story or stories but rather contrasts about how humans brutalize ourselves and each other with "going places" but really arriving nowhere. The antidote to the stressful experience of the modern human is found in the second half of the film--literally going in to nature. Beautiful scenes that don't need dialogue or even music to bolster them. 5+ stars!Sweet movie albeit slow moving. The subtitles ruined it for me although it is 1/2 English & 1/2 subtitles. The first half of movie is trivial and too descriptive of everyday people's thoughts and mundane living. Boring. The 2nd half is a bit fantasy like and sort of sweet. It's often basically boring. Goes off on a tangent with no story at all just character study shots of humanity. A nature study of all forms of life from birds, bugs, animals and humans. Kind a silly; not real fantasy/fairytale. Sorry I wasted $6.99 on it. Not even a love story. Just an acquaintence story. Thumbs down.Sent from my android device. This is a mesmerizing film that veers into unexpected territory. What starts out as an almost cinema verite study of human behavior transforms into magic realism in its second half. Be patient with the lulls because they lead to wild flights of fantasy and a bird's-eye view of life on planet Earth. Acting is terrific across the board and the cinematography is stunning. It does get boring. But there is an underlying anecdote.I love foreign films and subtitles. I liked the mix on this one. I would give everyone involved an Oscar!Josh Charles should have kept his job on The Good Wife. This movie was over two hours of excruciating boredom, In the first hour Josh argues with his wife via Skype followed by a half hour segment inexplicably given over to a maid who transforms into a talking sparrow......It was like watching two really bad movies in a row. In the end Josh meets the sparrow on an airport escalator!!!!!. Straight to video.Josh, I hope they'll take you back on the Goodwife but, on second thought, your character died there as well......Torture, shear torture. I do not mind slow moving movies, but this ! The first half seemed to depict a situation in which the viewer could invest himself/herself, even though the the story line was too drawn out. Suddenly it all changes to a fantasy dream world, barely connected to the first half. No great or even little philosophical point is made. It would have been less painful to fall into a vat of stinging nettles that to have endured the slow grinding pain of watching this. The movie has a long fantasy sequence that plays on the title of the film and is implied in the trailer. Though beautifully filmed and well acted the story was boring to me and somewhat idiotic. I love Josh Charles. I wish this movie was more focused on him and his story than 'flying' all over the place both figuratively and literally.I was interested in Josh Charles and while I think his acting was very good and I understand why he wanted a change of pace after The Good Wife, frankly I found the movie boring. I thought I would love the Paris connection but in fact the venue did not matter much. I do not find the French or the subtitles a problem. I think they just tried too hard to make the movie "artie" and they just did not pull it off. Dissapointing! I had to guess what they were talking about when they spoke French. I blame Diaphana Edition video for this Bluray production - how easy it would have been to put in English subtitles. I love French cinema but only when I can understand it. Unless Amazon.FR clearly state that a film has no English subtitles - I'd hesitate buying from this site again which is regrettable as they have a fine collection of wonderful French movies.
